COUNTY CLERK DEATH RECORDS INDEXES

Source:  Microfilm (print outs)
Name:  Clay Co., IL Death Records

When I took over the Clay Co., ILGenWeb site, I contacted the Clay County Clerk to find out what the rules are to go to their office and  copy records - index books to put data on this site.  The person I spoke with stated they do not allow researchers to come into the office.  If anyone wants or needs any records one must contact the Historical - Genelogical societies.

With that information, I took a U-turn and went to the State of IL Archives.  To make a long story short, I now have 1200-1500 (more coming!) Death Indexes for Clay County and in the process to copy them to display here.  For now, just beginning this task, there are about 250 displayed here.

When I am not sure of a name, place, or date, I put it in  italic and for unknown numbers, I use dashes (--).

From experience, many of the names, places, even months are mis-spelled.  I am a very strong believer to copy data "as it is written".  For example, one case Tommy was spelled Tomy.  I did not make any corrections.  Therefor, make sure you have your 'researching hat' on and think of all ways to spell.

Many thanks to Sue A, my best friend and proof reader, for all her help.  Sometimes we work such long hours and get 'frustrated' that we start making jokes of things, then the laughter makes this easier to do.

After this, when I do a 'new' upload, I will post the 'new' gif under the letters added.

Smiles!
