Obituary - Ewing M Jennings

Ewing M JENNINGS, son of William Elliott and Francis Caroline CORNELIUS JENNINGS was born August 30th, 1862 near Sorento, Bond County, Illinois. He was born in a family of fourteen children, twelve boys and two girls, all of which died in infancy except four. He being the last of this family, departed this life January 19, 1942.

He was united in marriage to Martha E GOLDEN, June 12, 1882 who departed this life February 1900. To this union was born eleven children, six of these passing away in infancy.

He was united in marriage to Hilda COOK, August 24th, 1901, who passed away Sept. 25th, 1913. To this union was born five children, all of which are still living.

He was united in marriage to Arvilla JOHNSON, January 15th, 1914. After twenty-eight years of wedded life he slipped away to heaven, leaving to mourn his death his devoted wife, nine children, four step children, a host of grandchildren, friends and relatives.

The children now living, Maude GOODMAN, Clay City, Ill; Jane MULLANEY, Pinkstaff, Ill.; Gibson JENNINGS, Flora, Ill; Steve JENNINGS, Louisville, Ill.; Eva DEVORE, Clay City, Ill.; Ethel CHILDERS, East Alton, Ill.; Stella FILLENWORTH, Mansfield, Ill.; Ruth BATEMAN, Gary, Ind.; Edith TOLLIVER, Gary, Ind. Louie JENNINGS, the eldest son preceded his father in death five years.

Ewing was converted early in life in the Methodist church. Since then he has lived a constant christian life, leaving a definite testimony before his passing of his assurance of Heaven.

Friends and neighbors of his home community will mourn the passing of this good man. Children were always a great favorite with him, and he was never too busy for a word of greeting.
