  COUNTY FORMATION

  Clay County was created in 23 Dec 1824.
   The original boundries were carved from Crawford, Fayette, and Wayne counties.

  Clay county was named in honor of Henry Clay, a lawyer, planter, statesman, and skilled orator.
  "Clay’s personal magnetism made him one of America’s best-loved politicians;
  his elaborate scheming made him one of the most cordially hated.
  Through it all he displayed remarkable consistency of purpose: he was a nationalist,
