Thomas GOLDEN was interred in
the Golden cemetery, six miles northwest from Flora and about one and
one-forth miles from his home, on the 13th of January 1898. He was in his
eightieth year when he died, having been born in 1818. The deceased leaves
three children to survive him. He had reared, besides his own children,
fourteen orphan children. Father Golden was buried according to the ritual
of the Masonic order by the Chapter of Flora of which he was a charter
member, and the members of which have held him in high regard. Elder Bedall,
pastor of the Christian Church of Flora, delivered the funeral oration in
the new M.E. Church recently erected near the cemetery where the deceased
was interred. For nearly a half century this patriarch had been connected
with the Christian Church, and when, at last the fords of the Jordan were
found, he entered and crossed the dark and silent river without a fear, and
without a doubt. His memory is fragrant.
